Any shadows on the background should be avoided. The distance of the subject should be at least ten feet from the background, to minimize any kind of shadow. Obscure or not, as long as the clip is copyrighted, you still need permission. Keep in mind even obscure musicians may have a big label behind them monitoring the usage. They may ignore it, or monetize your video, or do something else. It will be up to the rights owner to decide.
